December 20, 2014: Happy Birthday to Me

I have one wish for my 41st birthday. I wish those of you reading this commit to 41 acts of kindness in the next 365 days. They can be as free as a smile or as grand as you can afford. You can do them in secret or put your name on them. Give to those you know and to complete strangers. Give to the poor and to the rich (sometimes they are really the poorest). Learn to listen to the quiet, still voice that nudges you to do for someone else what seems uncomfortable & as an inconvenience in that moment. In the beginning, it will feel awkward, but over time you’ll find yourself seeking out opportunities all the time until one day being kind becomes who you are instead of what you do.
